mmonnin (mmonnin) Anandtech has available a Socket M2 roadmap, a DDR2 940-pin socket not compatible with the current 940 socket.

November 6, 2005 10:57 AM ET in News,

The roadmap shows two new X2 Dual Core Athlon 64 Processors, the 5000+ and 5200+ for the M2 Socket with launch dates of Q2′06 and Q4′06, respectively. An Athlon FX62 will also launch in Q2′06.

The new Pacifica enabled DDR2 processor code names expected to launch during the end of Q2′06 will be:

Windsor: Dual Channel DDR2, Pacifica enabled Socket M2 dual core
Orleans: Dual Channel DDR2, Pacifica enabled Socket M2
Manila: Dual Channel DDR2 Sempron, Socket M2

April looks to be the launch date for the earliest Socket M2 Processors. Remember these will use DDR2 memory.

    pacifica = secure virtual machine

  3. do these require anything speciall like ecc or something?

  4. Yeah its AMDs version of Vanderpool, where you can run multiple OSs on the same system without a lot of the software overhead. It will mainly be used for servers and higher end machines with many simultaneous users.

    Not sure about the RAM.

  5. I can't wait for the new Socket sets to roll out I know I will be building a few for the heck of it
