AMD To Launch FX-62 & X2 5000 With M2

AMD has shed some light on 12 of its new processors that will ship in Q2 to support the launch of the new M2 platform.

AMD have given us a few hints of which processors will make the Q2 cut. The higher end X2 and FX series processors will be the main push in the launch, but we will still see a nice mix up of Sempron and Athlon single cores hitting the market as well.

All Socket M2 processors will be based on a common DDR2 memory controller that is validated for 333 MHz operation (DDR2-667), with only the cache size and clock speed differentiating the individual processors. There will be 2 x 1 MB or 2 x 512 KB L2 cache for the dual cores, 512 KB L2 cache for the single core Athlon 64 models and 256 KB for the Sempron series.

    I know isn't it crazy? Gaining more performance without changing the speed. That's awsome if you ask me

    NOT same range. min likely 2.0 max atleast 2.6 (possibli 2.66). with Fx at 2.8(pos2.83)

    X2 5000+ = X2 4800+ & DDR2 (2.4ghz)

    Except for the FX Series and certain highend SC Opterons (x52, x54), the main range of AMD CPUs has been ticking along at 1.8ghz-2.4ghz for 3+ years
    Athlon XP (130nm) 2200+ - 3200+ (1.8ghz - 2.2ghz)
    Athlon 64 S754 2800+ - 3700+ (1.8ghz - 2.4ghz)
    Athlon 64 S939 (SC) 3000+ - 4000+ (1.8ghz - 2.4ghz)
    Athlon X2 S939 (DC) 3800+ - 4800+ (2.0ghz - 2.4ghz)
    Opteron DC series 165-180 (1.8ghz - 2.4ghz)

    It was so long ago that I had my 1.4 Athlon XP Thunderbird....... we've come so far with so little MHz :P

    I remember mine fondly. A 1.4TBird and a Abit KT7(A)

    Also it was a 75watt CPU. A X2 3800+ uses about the same power....

    ah remember the good ole days of the 1700+ on hte Abit NF7-S v2.0 and looks what we have done! I had that sucker up to 2.5ghz and I am at 2 ghz now a decrease in MHZ but OH so much more performance!

    It looks like I might be wrong with that X2 5000+ comment above.....

    There's also info that there will be S939 & S940 versions of the FX-60 & X2 4800+.
