Sony seems to have discontinued its 60GB PS3 which has no inventory left at the SCEA warehouses. This is a big deal to most gamers who are saving pennies to purchase a PS3, as that means the $499 price tag will soon be gone as Sony hasn’t announced a replacement for that price point.

This announcement will leave the current 80GB PS3 shipping with a copy of MotoStorm the only SKU left that Sony has inventory of. Rumors have hit the web that Sony is working on a 160GB version of the console that will replace the 80GB version at $599 and bump the 80GB down to the $499 price point, but as I said that is a rumor.

Coming into the holiday season with limited $499 console might just hurt Sony yet again, but with rumors flying no one really knows what is going to happen.
