In the vacuum created by the collapse of AMD’s FX nomenclature, AMD continued to cater to enthusiasts by releasing multiplier-unlocked chips with the “Black Edition” name. In continuing with that tradition, AMD has announced their first Black Edition CPU for their tri-core Phenom X3 models.

The Phenom X3 8750 chip will clock in at 2.4GHz with a $134 pricepoint. Speaking on the release, Principal Analyst at Gabriel Consulting Group Inc. Dan Olds commended the processors for filling a valuable niche. “They do fill a slot in the market, providing a balance of price vs. power,” he said. Olds also noted that the processors were a welcome addition to the AMD lineup which provides reasonable performance at reasonable prices.

As always, the Black Edition CPUs come unlocked from the factory and can be subjected to a full range of multiplier adjustments for maximum overclocking potential.

  1. Any published overclocking forays on these "Black Edition" three-cylinder units yet? $134 (2.4GHz model) doesn't sound too bad, depending on if there's any OC headroom.

  2. I do not believe they're released yet, just paper-launched.
