A bold new scam uses IRS livery to dupe unwitting users into supplying personal information for the purposes of identity theft. While Firefox’s vast anti-phishing blacklist alerted us to the scam, users of other browsers may not be so fortunate.

It goes without saying that you should be careful when accessing any link that may arrive in your email, especially when it promises unexpected good fortune.

This looks just like the IRS homepage but DO NOT BE FOOLED!

Clicking on the link in the email will take you here. Firefox gave me a phishing warning, go Firefox!

  1. That is one of the most brutal scams I've seen in a long time...

Free stuff in your e-mail is a myth. Not reality

  2. In case anyone didn't know, the IRS will never ask you for anything in an email.

  3. The IRS doesn't even have a "refund" department! I am sure there are many more out there so beware. Never ever give personal information over the internet. I am sure most of the regulars here at Icrontic are aware of the dos and don'ts but there are a lot of people who fall for this stuff every year.
