Folding@Home: new projects, new core

Stanford released a new series of work units for the GPU clients. They’re already in use if the client has the -advmethods flag enabled.  The new series is 5900 and up.  These new work units should reduce the GPU load temperature due to a redesigned process core,  Core_14.  The new core has rewritten mathematics that cause it to burst information to the GPU and fluctuate power consumption.

Also new to Folding is Project 5902, with work units valued at 1,680 points.  This is the first time that a long-run project has been given to the GPU client.  This new project is roughly 4 times longer than project 5900, the first to use Core_14, and is on par (point-wise) with the SMP client projects.  Up until now, work units have only yielded point values ranging from 353-511 points.

Are you folding with Team Icrontic yet?

  1. So when are they gonna fix the graphical client so it shows the numbers properly?

  2. What does that have to do with this thread?

But in answer, the graphical client is one of the lowest priorities at Pande Group. Tim, FAHMon is an excellent monitor for tracking units work units and production.

  3. I'm running a 5903 right now, also worth 1680 points. It's at 14% now and expecting 5 hours to complete for around 7k PPD if that's all you get.
