Oops.

The upcoming GPU is not quite twice the beast of the Radeon HD 5870, as the memory clock has been dropped from 1200MHz to 1000MHz, while the core clock has been reduced from 850MHz to 725MHz. Raw numbers alone dictate that the card should fall a hair shy of CrossFired Radeon HD 5870s.

On the other hand, Geishalz pegs the 5970 with a €505,39 MSRP which falls below the roughly €600 that’s required to snag a pair of 5870s. In terms of price/performance, the new 5970 should be the clear winner.

Lastly, the company has tossed on dual DVI ports, HDMI, an mDP port, and an integrated 8-channel audio codec which supports CrossFireX.

For those not hip to the native tongue of the Fatherland, the following table carries the relevant specs.

  1. ETA? I am thinking what this will do to 5850 and 5870 prices?

  2. Late November, if I had to guess. It's a halo product, so it won't likely alter the prices of current 5000 parts at all.

  3. seastar

It probably won't do anything to the 5850 or 5870s prices.

  4. spiney

and what about 5870x2? where it should be placed?

  5. The 5970 is the "5870 X2." That branding was dropped.

  6. ETA: 18.Nov
