On November 11, Silicon Valley memory technologies firm Rambus filed an injunction with the ITC alleging that NVIDIA was infringing on key patents related to Rambus’ memory technologies portfolio. Fast forward to today where Rambus has announced that ITC has agreed with a request for investigation and is proceeding on that front.

In the announcement, Rambus spells out the matters of contention:

In its complaint, Rambus has alleged infringement of nine Rambus patents. The accused products include NVIDIA products that incorporate DDR, DDR2, DDR3, LPDDR, GDDR, GDDR2, and GDDR3 memory controllers, including graphics processors, and media and communications processors.

Rambus General Counsel Tom Lavelle has previously indicated that NVIDIA and Rambus negotiated the current dispute for six years without resolution. “We believe this action is necessary given NVIDIA’s continued willful infringement of our patents,” he said in a prepared statement released in November.

Individuals looking to follow the public documentation regarding the case are invited to keep tabs on case number 337-TA-661 on the US Trade Commission’s website.
