A deal is in the works that could encourage the use of online medical records in Michigan. Compuware Corp’s Covisint plans to announce that physicians will soon have a dedicated network called MSMS Connect.  The portal will allow doctors to communicate with each other and discuss their patients’ information. The MSMS Connect will allow physicians to check schedules, make electronic prescriptions, and find out lab results.

Michigan officials have been pressing for online medical records for years now. They say it will help cut health care cost and improve the quality of care. The drawback is that only 18% of Michigan physicians have stepped up to the MSMS Connect plate. Regardless of numbers, Covisint and the medical society will launch MSMS Connect at the beginning of 2009.
