This week, Dell announced Michael Dell would be returning to his former position as CEO due to Kevin Rollins resignation.

Rollins has been the CEO for Dell since 2004. Dell’s board of directors were involved in Rollin’s decision to leave his position with the company; however, it is not clear if Rollin’s was asked to resign by the board or if he did so on his own.

The resignation comes after Dell had a rough year. In 2006 Dell saw its lead in the PC market slip and is now second in the market behind HP. Dell is also under investigation by the SEC over certain accounting issues that could affect its earnings for 2006.

Michael Dell is currently devising a plan for his company in ‘07 which he refers to as “Dell 2.0″. He pledges that Dell will continue to provide innovative products while improving support and services.
