President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team took the weekend to reveal that Julius Genachowski will be the next head of the Federal Communications Commission.

Previously the leader behind Obama’s successful internet campaign, he has also served on the boards of several savvy companies including The Motley Fool, Expedia, Web.com and Ticketmaster.

Regarding his credentials, the Advisory Committee to the Congressional Internet Caucus has this to say:

Julius Genachowski is Co-Founder and Managing Director of Rock Creek Ventures, which invests in, launches, and advises digital media and commerce companies. He is also Co-Founder of LaunchBox Digital, a seed-stage investment program for web and mobile entrepreneurs. Previously, he served in senior executive positions for eight years at IAC/InterActiveCorp (Nasdaq: IACI), including Chief of Business Operations, General Counsel, and a member of the Office of the Chairman. Mr. Genachowski joined IAC shortly after it was founded by Chairman and CEO Barry Diller, and was a key player in IAC’s growth to become a multi-billion dollar global e-commerce and media company….

Mr. Genachowski will be the individual with the single biggest impact to our interest in the internet, telecom and high-def, so let’s hope he “gets” it.

  1. Ticketmaster, eh? Can we expect outrageous fees for everything now?

  2. Aww, you beat me to the joke.

Where does this guy stand on the issues?

  3. I have been able to find next to nothing about his stances, though he was the head of Obama's internet campaign and policy team. This means that he had a huge hand in the open internet/net neutrality policies espoused throughout the campaign.

  4. You mean the policies that they revised to be more nebulous at time went on, and the internet campaign that died when the polls closed Nov. 4? Or am I doing it wrong?
