X-bit Labs is reporting that AMD’s popular Radeon HD 4870 will soon be targeting the $199 pricepoint.

According to an AMD/ATI spokesperson the new pricing is taking effect for both the 512MB and 1GB editions. “The price of the ATI Radeon HD 4870 is dropping and we expect that the 512MB and 1GB boards should be available on Newegg today for around $199 and $239 respectively, offering and even more compelling value,” they said.

A quick perusal of the Egg shows that, indeed, the Radeon HD 4870 512MB now weighs in at a healthy $199.

Yule!

  1. Dear Icrontic Sekrit Santa,

I've been a very good boy this year. Due to my excellent track record, I'd like to request a Radeon HD 4870 1GB for Christmas this year. Milk (or booze) and cookies can be arranged in return.

    Love,

  2. Wow, makes me feel bad for Nvidia. I know Nvidia is in good shape with 5billion in the bank but it's just been one bad thing after another for it.

Such a huge difference than just 6 months ago when Nvidia was slamming Intel. But I know Nvidia is fine and will rebound again.

  3. And what the heck is wrong with AMD. Do they just hate making a profit or what?

  4. I'm willing to think they're still making a bit of profit on this.

On a side note: This has officially made my "DO WANT NAO" list.
