Splashtop instant-on OS

We took a quick look at Splashtop to see what they were working on, and we got to demo their Linux-based instant-on OS. Their operating system boots off of a hidden partition or an on-mobo chip, and it booted in less than 10 seconds. We were impressed enough, but they also informed us that they’re working on bringing more apps like Skype to their product.

The UI was nice, the OS was quick, the programs were cool, and it was really just a neat product. We’re hoping that more laptops come with it because it works quite well. The programs that they’ve built into existing versions of the software would cover 90% of what I do on my PC, all without booting my actual OS.

The Splashtop rep indicated that their software is tightly-integrated with the hardware it runs on, so we can expect even better performance and features as time runs on.
