The stuff!

The stuff!

A couple weeks ago we posted a contest: NZXT is letting us give away a new Beta case, Avatar gaming mouse, and Sentry LX fan controller. The entries were good, but the winner was not that hard to pick.

We asked for pathetic, funny, sad stories about why people needed a new case, mouse, and fan controller. There were lots of pretty sad entries, but this one takes the cake.

First of all, the poor guy’s case was broken upon purchase, and is now set with electrical tape. Gotta give the man credit for at least trying to color match

My Thermaltake Mambo VC2000’s front bezel was broken upon purchase, and I could not return it since it was on clearance sale at a local computer store. So I have some electrical tape keeping the bezel attached to the rest of the case.

Secondly, the 80mm fan is 30 dBA, which is pretty darned loud. He has to turn his fan down every time he wants to use his computer, just to make it tolerable.

I also have an 80 mm fan on the side panel rated at 30 dBA, which I lower down to 1400 rpm everytime I start up my computer so that the noise is more tolerable.

That’s pretty sad, but this next part takes the friggin’ cake for patheticness. First of all, just look at this pig:

The dude uses one of those little nubs for GAMING. Pathetic!

The dude uses one of those little nubs for GAMING. Pathetic!

This poor guy uses a trackpad nub for gaming! And even better; look closely at the mouse buttons. The middle button broke off; and he was so intent on making this ridiculous setup work, that he tried supergluing the middle mouse button back on. When that didn’t work, it… well, I’ll let him tell it:

I tried to superglue it back on but it wouldn’t fit correctly due to the super glue that was still stuck on. So I stuck it in a little bit of acetone to try to get the excess adhesive off, and the button itself started to dissolve. The little capful of acetone was turning black with the particles of mouse button, so I quickly removed it and tried to wipe off any acetone. Now that button has my fingerprint permanently imprinted on it. I still glued it back to where it once served me, but it is now too stiff and unpressable to be of any use.

I mean seriously? He used caustic chemicals and partially dissolved his mousebutton. If there is a louder cry for mouse help than this, I don’t know what it is. Damn dude, you win.

Congrats to IC forums member Ohmecks for winning the Beta, Avatar, and Sentry! Brother, you surely need them!

Thanks to NZXT for providing the awesome prize package, and thanks to the other entrants for their entertaining stories.

  3. That thing with the mouse button is something even I wouldn't try to do! And you know how bad I can be about stuff like this!

  4. I've only seen 2 IBM keyboards... I have no idea why anyone would want one.

    Congrats Ohmecks!!!

  5. Well, that's well deserved. Heh. Poor guy.

  6. I've only seen 2 IBM keyboards... I have no idea why anyone would want one.

A guy I work with has one and he adores it. Too bad it's always losing connection with the machine.

    Congrats to the winner!

  7. Congrats!

  8. Wow, if there's anyone that needed this, it's him. Congrats.

  9. Thanks! I was worried I might distract from more worthy contestants, but it seems I was deemed pitiful enough to receive the prize. I'll be sure to post a picture of my new setup after I move all the internals to their new home.

  10. Woot! Congratulations man, you deserved it!
